So You're a New Cub Scout Leader!

Welcome to Cub Scouting!

Congratulations! Welcome to the challenges, opportunities, joys, and satisfactions that will be yours as a Cub Scout leader, guiding and influencing the lives of boys. By making the commitment to serve as a leader, you have joined the ranks of more than 500,000 adult leaders in 53,000 packs around the country who are giving time, ability, enthusiasm, and energy to build a better future for our nation. As you give leadership in Cub Scouting, you help enrich the lives of your boys and make a difference in the kind of men they will become. An exciting and rewarding experience lies ahead of you.

Many people are interested in helping you be successful in your job. Training opportunities will help you grow in effective leadership. So good luck, and welcome to the world of Cub Scouting!

Training

An important part of the Cub Scouting program is the training that is available to help new leaders have a successful and fun-filled program.

Fast Start Training

Fast Start training is designed to help get you started as a successful leader. The "Cub Scout Fast Start Viewer Guide," along with the videotape for your position, will help you plan your first meeting by showing you what a meeting looks like and by explaining how it is designed. Fast Start training will also tell you about resources that are available to help you understand where you fit in the pack organization.

To obtain a video, contact your Cubmaster or Committee Chair OR contact our Council Service Center nearest you. The BSA also has a Web-Based Cub Scout Leader Fast Start Training.

Fast Start is a beginning. It will provide all the information and resources you need to conduct your first meeting, along with guidance for the meetings that follow. Your next step is to participate in Cub Scout Leader Basic Training.

Cub Scout Leader Basic Training

In the Longs Peak Council, Leader Basic Training sessions are organized by Districts. Your Cubmaster or Committee chair may know the dates of your District Trainings. Some Districts have this information online on their District sites, and in others, you will need to contact your District Executive (DE) for training dates.

(You can click on your District on the Longs Peak Council Map to link to your District home page where you will find training dates or DE contact information.)

Roundtables

The roundtable is a gathering of all Cub Scout leaders in the district for a planned program built around the theme of the upcoming month. It features songs, games, crafts, ceremonies, and fun that you can use in your own pack and den program. It is also a chance for you to meet experienced leaders.
